Jimmy George (Rami Malek) is an established actor in the vanguard theatre scene of New York in the 1980s, navigating life whilst being diagnosed with AIDS. He is rehearsing for the play Once Upon a Time in the East, while his relationship with boyfriend Dennis is put to the test by a new neighbour downstairs, Vincent.

Featuring Malek's most subtle performance and standout turns by Tom Sturridge as the devoted Dennis and Luther Ford as the naive Vincent, The Man I Love is a career high for director Ira Sachs. Effortlessly enveloping audiences in the atmosphere of the late 1980s through suffuse lighting, meticulous production design and striking scoring, The Man I Love is a celebration of the inscrutable waltz of desire and affection.
