Filmed over three years at the agape orphanage in rural KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, this is the remarkable and moving story of a group of children who channel their hardship and loss into beautiful singing. Twelve-year-old Slindile, her siblings and most of her friends at the Agape Orphanage have lost their parents to AIDS, but when they lift their voices in song something extraordinary happens. Their dream is to take their choir to London for a series of fundraising concerts. As they train for what they hope will be their big break, their determination and indomitable spirit of resilience is challenged by a series of setbacks. Slindile and her siblings are hit with particularly devastating news – their oldest brother Sifiso, who has been sick for months, has AIDS. With unforgettable kids, soaring music and a plot full of surprises, We Are Together succeeds as a stirring and uplifting documentary. Thanks to the generosity of the filmmakers, part of the proceeds from our screenings will go directly to help the children of Agape. — Bianca Zander
