NZIFF Engage - Tāmaki Makaurau Panels

NZIFF Engage is a series of panel discussions which delve deeper into the themes of selected films in NZIFF 2023. NZIFF Engage is presented with the support of DEGANZ and Creative New Zealand, with four panels held in Tāmaki Makaurau.

On Saturday 29 July NZIFF in association with Gus Fisher Gallery held a curator tour and discussion panel 'Sorcery, Witchcraft and the figure of the Witch' moderated by Gus Fisher Gallery curator Lisa Beauchamp featuring panellists Mia Maramara, Hweiling Ow and Delilah Te Aōrere Pārore-Southon. On Sunday 30 July NZIFF in association with Women in Film and Television NZ held panel 'The Female Gaze in Film' following a screening of Nina Menkes documentary Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power at ASB Waterfront Theatre. The panel was moderated by NZIFF's Amanda Jane Robinson and featured panellists Marina Alofagia McCartney, Shuchi Kothari and Paula Whetu Jones. Photos by John Rata.

On Thursday 3 August NZIFF in association with Pan-Asian Screen Collective held panel 'Born and Raised: Filmmakers of the Asian Diaspora' in the Civic Wintergarden following a screening of Celine Song's Past Lives. The panel was moderated by NZIFF Asian + LGBTQ+ Films Programmer Vicci Ho and featured panellists Milon Tesiram and Michelle Ang. Photos by John Rata.
